Objectives and Guiding Principles

  1. SCFS is sited in Kwicksutaineuk Territory and First Nations protocols must be respected.
  2. Research results produced at Salmon Coast Field Station (SCFS) will provide public policy authorities the essential scientific building blocks needed to optimally manage coastal BC ecosystems. Researchers are encouraged to ensure that those shaping and implementing policies pay attention to the results of their research.
  3. Researchers at SCFS are willing to share with the public the results of their research conducted here.
  4. Researchers are encouraged to make available, with their consent, archives of data collected at SCFS, so future researchers at the station may benefit.
  5. SCFS provides state-of-the-art alternative energy to scientists and helps educate those at the station how to live with alternate energy and, thus, reduce their carbon emissions beyond the station.
  6. Researchers and station users will be asked to participate in maintenance of the organic gardens, firewood, and other operations essential to running SCFS.
  7. Research teams are encouraged to participate in the Echo Bay community, by giving presentations or tours of their projects, and by attending community events and activities.
  8. SCFS operations do not compete with local hospitality enterprises. We encourage research teams to use local expertise and services as much as possible.
  9. In addition to providing a base for research, SCFS is open to providing a venue for university classes, educational workshops, and other activities conducive to our mission and principles.

Mission Statement
